Two weeks ago today Silas was born.
I haven’t slept much since then.
I’m not complaining…I wasn’t sleeping much in the weeks leading up to his birth either. It’s infinitely better to be able to cuddle, kiss and hold the source of my insomnia.
Life seems like it’s on hold right now. My days consist of nursing, changing diapers, taking care of the other three kids, preparing meals, cleaning up after meals and trying to fit in sleep when I can.
To add to the craziness, my little brother is getting married soon. In a little less than 2 weeks Josh will be heading north on I-5 with Eli & Ezra while I take to the skies with Cora & Silas. We will then spend the next two weeks visiting with friends and family in the great NW and doing wedding-type stuff.
All of this is good. All of this is exciting. All of this is distracting.
I haven’t had the brain-cells to write, even though so much has occurred I want to share. Josh turned 30 last Friday and we had a big ol’ Cajun seafood boil to celebrate.
Eli turns 6 this Friday and it’s 4th of July weekend – always an eventful time.
But I just can’t do it.
So, I just wanted to send out a message that I’m still alive. I’m doing well. We’re adjusting to life as a family of 6. And I miss my blog.
I miss interacting with everyone. I miss mulling over what God’s showing me through my day-to-day experiences as a SAHM. I miss the creativity.
I’ll be back soon. I just need a nap first.

i’m sorry for that missing because (for all kinds of different reasons), i get that deep ache. but take your time in “coming back”. get in that nap. or nine. breathe in deep. we’ll still be here. you’ve got a whirlwind going on right now and in the weeks to come. you’re gonna have some tales to tell, girl! i’m glad i’ll be able to keep up with you at least a bit via twitter…
and seriously that picture of silas makes me want to eat. him. up!
What great encouragement Alece! And I’m really hoping we can meet up in August when you’re back in the area. π As long as you promise not to eat Silas. Haha!
Get some sleep… *sings a lullaby*
Haha! Have you ever noticed how uncomforting “Rock-a-Bye Baby” is? Babies falling out of trees? Thanks for the song, though. π
I was actually thinking along the lines of “go to sleep little creep” song.
Yep, take a nap! We’ll be here when you get back. Also, my daughter’s birthday is on Thursday and she’ll be 6–lots of fun. Be blessed, Melissa.
Thanks Jason! Have fun celebrating your daughter’s birthday! π
Take your time – don’t rush it. Everything else will wait. Babies and family won’t. You are lovely and brave and exhausted π Good luck coming out of the three month sleep deprivation. You should be an old hand by now! And Silas? SWOON!!!
Thanks for the reminder, Lisa-Jo. π I’ve felt so out of the loop, but that’s what happens with IRL friends when you have a baby, so it’s natural it would happen online too. I’m looking forward to catching up with people though.
so sweet. all that fatigue-i’m sorry-but how yummy. that little bundle of possibilities needing you, right along side of his siblings (and dad). how blessed! you’ll remember that you were tired, but you won’t remember {really}how you feel. but you will remember all this stuff about him, even tho he’s the fourth. i promise. i sang barney songs with my 11 year old yesterday on the way home from swim team. and i remember.
I’m really trying to store it all up in my heart like the Bible said Mary did. Despite the fatigue, I’m feeling so blessed and happy with where my life is right now. π
Take your time, Melissa. Enjoy this. We’ll all still be here when you get back.
Great advice Billy! Thanks! π
hi melissa, i’ve been lurking on your blog for a couple of weeks reading back posts and i love your space here. i just wanted to also encourage you to take your time being present w/ your family and love on them and get rest when you can. i don’t have 4, but 3’s close, and since my youngest just turned one, i can’t believe how fast it all goes. we’ll be here! ps my 4 yo refuses to sing rockabyebaby b/cs it’s scary to him!
Misty! Nice to meet you and thank you so much for the encouragement. π I’m really working on cherishing these days with the kids and I’m looking forward to our vacation next week. I’m glad you commented because it’s always fun to find out who’s lurking out there. Haha!!
