When you have nothing to tell…
Today I was folding 12 loads of laundry at the laundromat — a task that left a lot of time for thinking, especially since the two TVs were playing dueling soap operas. Turning to the load of hot-from-the-dryer darks, I picked up one of my husband’s work shirts.
“He won’t need these anymore,” I thought as I pressed out the wrinkles with my hands.
The semester is over, the students have moved out, and this week will be focused on shutting down the cafe for the summer. Looming in front of us is the arbitrary date we’ve set for our transition back to the Pacific Northwest.
The first week in July is launch time. We’re at T-minus 57 days, and counting, till we head north on Interstate 5 over the Grapevine and through the Siskiyous.
Everyone’s curious about what the future holds. Everyone, including us.
What will we be doing?
Where will be living?
What church will we be attending?
The answer is the same: God only knows. I don’t say that sarcastically, bitterly or flippantly. It’s the truth of our current situation.
Our peace regarding this move is unwavering, despite the fact that God hasn’t revealed to us much more of the plan beyond: “GO.”
So, for those of you who have been looking for an update on our move…there you have it. We’re moving the first week of July. Boxes will soon start being packed. Yard sale piles are already in progress. Some sad goodbyes have taken place. God has it all under control.

It’s exciting to see God moving you and He must have cool plans ahead for you. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
Me too! 🙂 Haha! Honestly, watching what you’ve been through in the past few months has really encouraged me. I’ve seen God come through for you and your family in amazing ways. We can’t fail in trusting Him, I believe.
All I can think of is the verse you picked when you redid your blog. That’s it – pretty simple. But then you already know that 🙂 Godspeed with everything God Bless and keep you and all of yours Melissa.
Yes, it is all about abiding in Him, and resting in His presence. Thank you for that reminder, Craig!
Wow! The possibilities can be freeing and exciting or nervewracking and overwhelming. Praying the former will hold true. When we’re open to God, there’s no telling how He’ll use us!
That may be why I’m feeling so overwhelmed right now, there’s so much that He could do and I have no idea which direction to look in. I only know the general location of our move, but the minutia are still unknown. Thank you for those prayers, we’re resting in them right now!
Thanks for the “update” Melissa. Still praying for you and Josh.
Thank you for those prayers, Bill! They are our biggest support!
love your faith and that you can say God only knows like that! such an inspiration.
Sometimes He brings us to a point where the only thing we can do is look to Him. That’s where we are. We’ve done all we can (in our current location) to reach out to others and cast nets. He has to come through, and He will. 🙂
Do you know what specific state or just that you’re coming to the PNW for now? I don’t pop on your blog too often, but I read it all the time, and being in Seattle, I would love to welcome you here and go out to coffee or help you get settled in if you’re nearby.
We will be moving to Washington, which is where I am originally from. I would love to get together with you sometime, Hannah! It’s always exciting to meet online friends in person. 🙂
Wonderful!
Exciting. praying for you guys!
Thanks, Dustin! How’s that new baby doing? 🙂
All I have to say is that I’m glad the plans include Washington and I get to meet you in real life!!! Soooooooo excited! But, def praying He brings clarity and provision for you and yoru family during this transition.
Thanks for the prayers, Keri! 🙂 I am really looking forward to a Starbucks meet-up!
