Smash

I bought my kids piggy banks. This way they can store up their pennies, nickels, and dimes for the future.

Tucked away in the dark, the coins accumulate and wait for a future day when they will be redeemed for toys or candy.

I have a piggy bank, too. Mine isn’t full of copper and silver; mine’s full of dreams.

I slip them, one by one, into the slot for that someday in the future when they will be used.

Occasionally I take them out and count them, marveling over their potential. Then back into the jar they go.

This way they’re safe; nothing can ruin them.

Not ridicule.

Not fear.

Not failure.

God wants to smash my piggy bank.

He wants to show me the dreams He has stored up for me; dreams that show how stale and insignificant my dreams are.

Dreams that are immeasurably more…

Because my dreams are all for me, and His dreams are for the good of all.

    1. Thanks, Glynn. πŸ™‚ I’m looking forward to when God exceeds my wildest imaginings. Praying the same for you! I really enjoyed your post for the One Word at a Time blog carnival. It really got me thinking about what we’re to be ambitious about.

  1. Hey Friend!
First, I’ve never heard anyone put this concept forth like this. This is a very creative, not to mention apt, illustration of something many of us must face.
Second, I have been really getting a lot out of your posts lately (well, I always get something from your posts). I feel that I am learning many of the same lessons about which you are writing. It makes me feel like there’s a little less distance between all of us. πŸ™‚
    Keep it up!

    1. Levi, it warms my heart to see you on here! Makes me feel like the crazy stalker I am, butting in and sharing your feelings of little-less-distance-ness. πŸ˜‰

  2. When I think of some of my dreams that at this point in life feel like will never be realized, I remind myself that in heaven just the streets will be made of gold. Gold that is our most precious medal will be the pavement! I have so much to look forward too! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. You are not alone! πŸ™‚
